What is an IMEI number?

The International Mobile Equipment Identity or an IMEI number is a unique 15 digit number that every smartphone, mobile phone and even a sattelite phone has.

The IMEI number is helpful in identifying if the device is a valid device. Also it helps in tracking the device. Its useful in case you loose your device then the IMEI number of your device can be useful in tracking its location. However, this can be done until the thief changes the IMEI number.

Tracking phone using an app

So if you still have your smartphone with you is having anxiety of losing it, you can download this popular app from the play store called: IMEI Tracker – Find My Device (Link)

The app updates you whenever your Android smart phone get stolen/lost and when the new SIM card is inserted in the mobile, this Mobile Finder for Android app begins and automatically sends SMS from the SIM card which is inserted.

The app needs you to store your family/friends mobile numbers in the app so that the SMS can be sent to those mobile numbers whenever a trigger sms is sent to this device.

The SMS contains the IMEI number of the mobile and service provider details of the SIM. The security of this app is enhanced by prompting a password to unlock this app and make any changes.

The app however needs permission to access your device location to share it with other device. It requires smartphones with GPS enabled and interent data (keep your mobile data on whenever you’re outside your home).

Such cases are immediately reported to the cyber cell and phone are kept on track using the IMEI number.
